Cloudy U.S. Outlook Keeps December Jobs Expectations in Check

NEW YORK (TheStreet) — Weeks of falling jobless claims data and strengthening private-sector employment trends are fueling expectations for a modest uptick in the government’s December jobs report.

A pick up in domestic hiring is essential to an economic recovery. Patrick O’Keefe, economist with business advisory firm J.H. Cohn, says that since hiring began showing improvement around March 2010, companies have added just shy of 3 million new jobs as of November 2011. It’s a measly number compared to the 132 million total jobs in the economy today, according to O’Keefe, but noteworthy nonetheless.

In recent months, new jobs in healthcare, leisure and manufacturing as well as temporary help have been the main sources of improvement in the jobs market. Adding to economists’ hopes for better payroll numbers is a steady stream of weekly jobless claim numbers leading up to the report that have come in below 400,000.

Apple Television: Did Steve Jobs Crack The Code?

By Shelly Palmer:

“I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use,” Steve Jobs told his biographer, Walter Isaacson. “It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud.”

Everyone assumes that Apple is working on iTV or whatever it will be called. It’s in his biography, pundits speak about it — the only question is when will it debut?

I will be hugely surprised if Apple markets a television set. My guess is that it will bring a new device to the marketplace that will offer a Jobsian way to consume video content, play games and interact in the social space. Calling it a TV will probably be pejorative or, at the very least, a misnomer.

That said, I am fascinated by the quote from Steve Jobs’ biography. “It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it,” mostly because

401K limit applies if I changed jobs during the calendar year?

Question by SHH: 401K limit applies if I changed jobs during the calendar year?
I have recently changed jobs and would like to know if the annual limit still applies to my 401K.

For example, year to date I’ve contributed $ 10K to my previous employer’s 401K plan. Does this mea my 401K contribution for the year with the new employer should be less than 5.5K?

Thanks!
